1993 Experimental Study of Spray Flash Evaporation for Desalination and OTEC
By utilizing an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant using and integrated hybrid cycle, than is, a combination of a closed OTEC plant and a spray flash desalination plant, we can increase the overall benefits in the generation of electricity and fresh water. In this paper, an experimental study of the spray flash water evaporation is made for the OTEC plant using an integrated hybrid cycle for a flash evaporation temperature of 29°C. The nozzle used is made of stainless tube with an internal diameter of 10mm and a length of 81.3mm. An empirical equation for predicting the rate of flash evaporation is obtained. By using this empirical equation, designers will be able to easily obtain the rate of producing fresh water.
