1999 Analysis of Power Cycle for 1MW Floating OTEC Plant
NIOT [National Institute of Ocean Technology, India] is building a 1MW closed cycle floating OTEC plant. Basic design of the power cycle is based on an optimization program that seeks to minimize the heat exchanger area for a given net power. The titanium plate heat exchanger that is used for the evaporator has a coating on the ammonia side to improve the heat transfer co-efficient. An analysis program is used to estimate the net power for off-design conditions corresponding to fluctuations in the warm water temperature.
